Emma is our beautiful witch who’s spent the past 10 or so years being hunted. She’s looked after her brother making sure he survives while also keeping them as hidden as possible.
Cade, Lucas and Zane are our three men, each a different type of supe, a fae, werewolf and vampire respectively. They may not be perfect, in fact they’re mostly mean and out for their own benefit and gain, but somehow Emma get to them in ways they weren’t expecting.
This is a really different take on the classic Beauty and the Beast. Instead of a bear kind of beast, we get three supernatural beasts. And unlike some of the more PG versions I’ve read, these beasts were not leading a life one would consider virtuous or kind.
At one such extravagant party they were cursed. All three of them had to find love within 10 years, or they and everyone in their household would die when the 10-year blood/sand hour/love-glass ran out.
I didn’t realise going into this that it was a Beauty and the Beast retelling and I’m quite disappointed in myself at how long it took for me to clue in. I think it’s different ENOUGH that it’s not immediately obvious, which is cool, but it’s also similar enough that you get a classic kind of a vibe from it.
I also really enjoyed the mystery behind who’s hunting her and who her stalker is. I have my own theories as to who the stalker is, so it’ll be interesting to see if I’m right in the rest of the series. Of course, I’m also hoping the romance will actually eventuate since it was mostly an ALMOST kinda teasing romance in this one.
