The Fake Date Formula – Mina Sinclair

This book contains:

  • Attempted murder
  • Invasion of personal space
  • Career sabotage.

Allie is a typical girl next door publicist who’s working hard to help support her family any way she can. She purposely chose a lower paying job closer to home so she could do more to support her parents than she could have from somewhere like New York.

Oliver is a top tier F1 driver whose career seems to have taken a fair hit in the media recently. Given his quiet lifestyle, even on the track, he’s finally reached a point where he needs help to figure out who to trust and repair his image so he can keep his job.

Oliver’s career is hanging on by a thread and he’s just about ready to do anything to figure out who’s behind it’s sudden decline and get it back on track. With his boss, he’s come up with a plan to hire someone to act as his fake girlfriend while also figuring out who’s behind all the negative press.

I had a lot of fun reading this new contemporary sports romance. Especially because it’s a sport I know a little about (thank you Rick who watches it religiously) and it spans the whole world allowing us to explore a range of locations.

However, I’m really hoping that one problem I had is corrected to the versions that are out now because anyone who knows the sport or is from Australia will know the problem instantly if it’s still there. But it’s not a huge deal if it wasn’t changed because it doesn’t change the story in any way.

In terms of the rest of the story, the way Allie and Oliver got to know each other and transitioned into a real romance was so sweet. The little touches are what really makes it special. Those sweet moments that can only occur when someone really cares about someone else are exactly what has you hooked and reading closely.

I’m excited to see where else Mina is going to have this series go, I think I have a suspicion about some of the other story’s characters. But I’ll have to wait and see!
