Lottie is a recently divorced woman who’s finally out of a difficult relationship and has gained the independence she’s missed for almost 20 years. Unfortunately, it’s also come with debt that she needs to pay off before she can move on with her life.
But Lottie is strong and creative and finds a way to work her way out of debt and into the life she wants.
Lottie has been wanting to spend more dedicated time with her boyfriend Ryan, who’s a newly divorced man, but every time they try, he runs off to help his ex-wife. They plan a romantic break in Cornwall to get away and spend some quality time together. But the trip ends up bringing her more than she expected.
This book was a combination of contradictions that felt so weird to navigate, and yet it works.
The choices that Lottie makes are ones that, to me personally, are unbelievable and so obvious how she ended up where she is now that I can’t understand how she got to where she got to. But then I had to remind myself that I’ve never been in her position, so I don’t know what choices I’d make if I was her. I know there are a lot of people who stay with abusive partners, even though they’re given options to leave. So, it’s not that far fetched that she’d have stayed with her ex.
What I found interesting is how we got to the ending. While I predicted one element, I wasn’t expecting another. I actually thought this was going to end up as more of a Chick Lit rather than a Romance, but the Romance did win out in the end!
But it’s quite an introspective journey for Lottie to get there.
