The Vintage Flower Van on Love Heart Lane – Christie Barlow

This book contains:
  • Death of a loved one
  • Losing their home and business.

Florrie is a long-time resident of Heartcross and living her dream when her Aunt passes away. Her dream was always to continue Aunt Ada’s business of running the Vintage Flower Van selling flowers to the community of Heartcross.

Tom knew Florrie at uni when they had a brief relationship. While his families business took over his life for some time, he’s finally reconnecting with Florrie, except she’s not the same as she was at uni. Now, she’s feisty, stands up for herself and he’s left confused about why she seems to hate him so much.

While Florrie is dealing with the grief of losing her Aunt Ada, the woman who practically raised her, she’s faced with the sudden threat of losing everything when a developer notifies her that they now own the property and van and she needs to vacate almost immediately. And then at the same time, her hated ex Tom turns up in town when she really didn’t need to see him again.

I went into reading the latest instalment in Heartcross not knowing it was the LAST book in the series. Even without knowing that, it had a sense of finality while also reflecting the very first book in the series, Love Heart Lane.

The thing I liked the most about this ending in the series is that we got to mix up the tropes compared to some of the more recent books in the series. Specifically, that we got to play around with enemies to lovers, second chances and of course the fiction element of dealing with grief and trying to find a way to keep their home.

I liked this because some of the more recent ones have felt like the “drama” element has been focused on the relationships between family members. Whereas this one was more about the relationship between love interests and the drama was about their lives. While family was of course woven into that, it didn’t feel like the main focus which was a nice change for me.
