Kate is a 35-year-old divorcee with a daughter in college. With nothing left for her in her hometown, she followed her friend and daughter to Florida to start over, gain her independence and discover herself.
Heath and Reid are her love interests who complement each other so well. They’re both strong men who know what they want and go after it, but also highly respect women and the need for consent.
Kate meets Heath in an unfortunate incident while out with her friend Jill but quickly discovers that there’s more to him than appeared when she first met him. As she takes the plunge to truly start her life again, her ex-husband shows up at the most unexpected times creating problems for her.
I was NOT expecting the turn that happened in this book. Based on the blurb, I assumed the drama that would inevitably happen (because it’s a story, we need drama!) would be between Kate, Heath and Reid.
Even when her ex popped up, I wasn’t expecting it to go quite as far as it did. Personally, it felt like it went a touch further than I could properly enjoy, but I think that comes down more to what I was expecting to happen rather than actually not enjoying it.
Since I’m generally not triggered by various distressing topics, I don’t tend to check for trigger warnings and stuff like that. But if you are, I think this is one that you should go into with care.
Not because it’s so incredibly awful. Just because it felt like it escalated quite quickly and if you’re not expecting it, it could be quite distressing.
I did enjoy it the whole way through though. And I’m interested to see where the future books in the series takes this.
