Thirty-Eight Reasons – Len Webster

This book contains:

  • Car accident with significant injuries
  • Infidelity.

Clara doesn’t feel like she deserves to be loved but doesn’t want to let down those who appear to love her. She’s nervous, not sure what she wants from life and in many instances is scared to put a foot wrong.

Nolan on the other hand is trying to recover from Clara breaking his heart by moving on, yet every time he sees Clara it’s that little bit harder and harder every time to walk away and let her have the happiness she deserves. Meanwhile, he’s trying to fix his friendship with Clara’s brother, Alex, his best friend since childhood.

Clara is moving on with Liam after ending things with Nolan at the end of Thirty-Eight Days, and yet she can’t help but visit Nolan before too many wedding plans are made. Meanwhile Nolan is trying to move on but every time he’s around Clara he’s tempted to try and ruin her engagement.

As they’re forced to be around each other more and more in the lead up to Clara’s wedding, it gets harder and harder to deny their attraction.

I’m not sure if my tastes have matured since I read Thirty-Eight Days, or maybe Clara felt more childish in this book. But I had so many moments where all I could do was scrunch my nose up in distaste at her actions and thoughts.

I get she’s trying to do right by Liam but still struggling with her feelings for Nolan, but it just felt like teenage high school drama to me. If you’ve been following me for a while or have a look through the types of books I review, I steer away from teenage drama. I don’t enjoy it, I find it exhausting and I just want to scream at the characters.

So I just avoid that style and read ones that are more suited to me.

Who Would Like It

If you like the teenage angst kinda love story, you’ll probably enjoy this. While a lot of the themes were a little more mature than teenage themes, Clara’s age and maturity (she’s only 19/20 in this book) really shone through. Enough that I’d classify this one closer to Young Adult than New Adult.
