Never Fall for Your Fiance – Virginia Heath

Hugh is an Earl with a mother who’s insisting he needs to get married, except he’s not interested. He doesn’t feel like he’s suited to marriage or any long-term romantic attachments. Especially given the way his parents’ marriage progressed.

Minerva is an everyday woman working to survive and make enough money to keep her family afloat. After the way men have treated her in the past — her father, her almost fiancé and most of her customers — she’s got zero interest in becoming emotionally involved with one.

Hugh’s caught out when he gets word that his mother is on the way home and wants to meet his made-up fiancé. Only problem is, she’s expecting to come to wedding planning, and he doesn’t even have a fiancé, let alone a wedding in preparation.

Thanks to a chance encounter with Minerva, he suddenly sees a way out of his disaster. He helps her, and then hires her to pretend to be his fiancé while his mother is in town. Of course, family is involved which means there’s all sorts of drama that gets in the way in the most interesting way possible!

I had so much fun reading this. Most of the regency romance novels I read have more mystery or general drama in it. Not many of them have me laughing like I was with this one!

I mean, how much drama can happen in one book?

And the way they all interacted! Such chemistry!

The laughter had me going almost the whole way through the book with each little bit just adding to the whole thing. So when they did finally find their way together, it felt like something more was going to happen… then it didn’t.

Lilian and the Irresistible Duke – Virginia Heath

Welcome back everyone, I know I did the Wrap Up with this review still to come. But I have another review tomorrow, so I wanted to get it out without releasing stuff four days in a row. You know, give you guys a chance to see everything without it being overwhelming!

I’m not sure if I read the blurb of Miss Amelia’s Mistletoe Marquees before Jenni sent me a copy to review. Since I’ve loved everything of hers, I may have just assumed I’d like it and said I’d review her book. If I did happen to read the blurb, I’d totally forgotten about it when I signed up for today’s review.

So when I read the first like, 2 pages, of this book I instantly realised it was a sequel to Miss Amelia’s Mistletoe Marquees and then promptly realised that the series was one of a few I’ve noticed in the past few months where different authors write one book each in the series so they can be released quickly. Does anyone know where this trend is coming from? Coz I’m curious!

The consistency of the character’s personalities across multiple authors was amazing. The fact that Lillian and Millie are quite similar was great. I’m assuming a lot of work had to go into getting these kinds of facts aligning, but I’m so glad they took the time to do it!

For those that are reading multiple books in the series this means a lot. While also allowing each character to have their own unique voice and style as each book is written by someone new. Rather than feeling weird that the writing style was a bit different it was great!

It allowed me to focus more on the story I was reading rather than why they felt too different, or too similar. And I was definitely engrossed in the story! Damn all those times I had to stop reading to get off a plane, to get ready for my new puppy and to have to go to the gym. Those times sucked!

The Determined Lord Hadleigh – Virginia Heath

Welcome back everyone, we’re back again today with another review for you this time with a regency romance. I swear this northern hemisphere summer is bring a lot of great releases with it!

We begin the book with Tristan’s point of view which is unusual for a romance. Normally the romances I read are from the girls’ point of view in the beginning although the guys will often be brought in after the first or second chapter.

One of the things that struck me once we jumped over to Penny’s point of view was how stubborn she was being when people were just trying to make it easier for her to get back on her feet. They weren’t trying to control her life, just give her time and options. So I really didn’t understand why she refused all help and cracked it at those that did try to offer her help.

One of the things I loved was that both Tristan and Penny could talk things through rather logically and see the other persons point of view. After they’ve calmed down from their own stubborn stance. They even helped each other get over some pretty bad memories which were holding them back from their futures.

I mean, if you’re going to be with anyone you want to be with someone who can help you through those tough times don’t you?

There were a few moments where I found myself disconnecting from the writing and having to re-read the sentence a few times for it to make sense. It wasn’t too often, but it felt like maybe some punctuation or something was missing. I couldn’t really nail down what it was, but it didn’t take me long to figure out what the author meant.
