Deep Sea Love – Zoe Ashwood

This book contains:

  • Kidnapping
  • Attempted murder.

Nia’s brother went to Norway and instigated a bunch of murder and drama in the previous book. Nia is a completely different type of which to her brother and is just trying to get her families grimoires back, so her coven won’t kill her. Her powers aren’t as strong as her brother, and she doesn’t want anything to do with the mystical world.

Magnus is the brother of the murdered sea dragon from the first book. He’s all seriousness, no fun and just trying to be the best leader he can be to his people while avoiding his murderous mother.

Nia arrives in Norway and runs into Magnus in the bar. The next day she almost literally runs into Magnus while he’s in sea dragon form forcing him to have to intervene to make sure she didn’t expose their secret. Cue being kidnapped and held against her will until Magnus decides what to do with her and whether he trusts her or not.

The time and acceptance Nia and Magnus experience with each other is profound. Especially given the experiences they’ve each suffered at the hands of the other species. I enjoyed reading them accept each other, test their boundaries and generally grow into better versions of themselves as part of a couple.

My only wish is to have had an ending where we got to see Nia in the archives, doing what she loves and seeing what she might find in there. It’s such a small thing but I really wish that one little thing happened!

Deep Sea Kiss – Zoe Ashwood

This book contains:

  • Murder.

Lottie and Eiric are so different there’s no way they could possibly find their way to each other.

Lottie is a human and the mother of twins whose father seems to want absolutely nothing to do with her or their children. She’s already in a country with no family and now she’s raising twins all alone.

Eiric, however, is the youngest son of his sea-dragon clan’s ruling family and tasked with finding out who killed his middle brother, the father of Lottie’s twins. Except, upon meeting Lottie he’s drawn to her in a way that he can’t explain.

Lottie is out on a mission to find the father of her twins and get him to sign some paperwork so she can get benefits from the Norwegian government as a single mum. When she finally catches him at home it turns out it’s his brother, Eiric.

Eiric can’t believe his brother would be silly enough to sleep with a human, let alone get one pregnant. If what Lottie’s saying is true, then there’s a huge risk of baby sea dragons being loose in the public for anyone to discover their existence.

The only problem for both of them is that there seems to be a witch out to kill Lottie’s twins and they need to find them and protect themselves before it’s too late.

Zoe’s ability to write about the paranormal and the human worlds mixing together always amazes me. I think my favourite thing about this one was the fact that we’d had this clan introduced to us (in theory) by the Sea Dragons of Amber Bay trilogy.

Like I vaguely knew a few tiny details about this clan, but it was so cool to read about them in person coz I definitely wanted to know more about them!

When I got to the end of the book I just had to have more! I’m so glad Zoe flew through writing the next book coz it means I can jump into that as soon as I’m free!
