The Library on Love Heart Lane – Christie Barlow

This book contains:

  • Adopted adult deciding whether to look for their birth parents or not.

Elle is coming up to her 30th birthday and reflecting on many aspects of her life. She has a successful career in the Love Heart Lane public library, her own house, the best adopted mum, and amazing friends. While she still feels like she’s missing something in her life, she’s not entirely sure if she’s brave enough to chase after it.

Noah is a career librarian and has just moved to Heartcross. While he’s well known for his skills as a librarian, his quiet charm and ease makes him a bit of a draw for the women of Heartcross. And yet, he only has eyes for one woman.

With Elle’s 30th birthday, an event to bring more people to the library and a writing competition all happening at the same time; it’s a busy time for Elle to begin a life changing search for her birth mum. Over the course of the book, all these events unfold weaving a beautiful life changing story.

Elle and Noah are both really calm, caring and thoughtful characters. While they aren’t conducive to a dramatic, exciting storyline – there is still some drama to keep us enraptured.

It’s just a quieter type of drama.

The quiet type that keeps you in a feeling of suspense for a long time rather than the huge ups and downs that many romance books rely on. While this is a bit different from most of Christie’s books, it works really well, and I love that she did this with these quieter characters to really compliment their personalities.

Something I’m really noticing with Christie’s books now is that many appear to have a theme of adoption going on making me wonder if this is something Christie has personal experience with and is therefore including in her writing more. I of course don’t know, but it is a thought, especially with how many different ways adoption has been brought into the series.
